Sasha Bessonova

Hi there!

01

I grew up in Russia, got a Master's in PR and Journalism along with decent English, Italian, and German from Moscow State Linguistic University. Working in the news department at 17 introduced me to the worlds of diplomats, spacemen, activists, scientists. I was fascinated and wanted to investigate. 4 years of news production covering first local and later major international stories brought two TEFI Awards by the Russian Academy of Television, thousands of reports and live broadcasts, and about a hundred international contributors to my contacts. I learned to work under stress (not just tight deadlines, but war zone productions), meet the most impossible targets, and search for data that is not meant to be found.

02

I switched then to Ed Tech and Online Courses production. I liked the opportunity to create impactful projects in the challenging environment of Russia’s education. Strelka Institute of Media, Architecture, and Design shifted my understanding of architecture and community responsible entrepreneurship. I produced 7 online courses including research, expert interviews, content creation, oversaw the design, and video production. Featured in almost all Russian media, these courses were picked up by individual students, government organizations, public schools, business accelerators, and private clients (IKEA, Samsung, Adidas, and Gazprom). My current passion for themes of architectural culture, indigenous design, and speculative architecture is rooted in those years. Later as General Producer, I launched Active Age, an online school for seniors, a joint project of financial giants Sberbank x Mastercard. Over 1 million unique users visited the site during the promotional campaign. Empowering seniors, another group that gets limited support in the current Russian socio-economic landscape, felt important.

03

I moved to California chasing new horizons. Just a little of New York, then San Francisco, and finally landed in Los Angeles. The Project Management program at UCLA added a US title to my resume and elevated my love for Excel tables. This knowledge supported my work as Head of Operations and Creative Production at Perfect Number, a women's clothing brand and cultural platform. We grew the company to 25 people, released 4 collections in 2 years, made it into Dazed, WWD, Metal Magazine, Vogue, Interview. Fans of PERFECT NUMBER included Alicia Keys, Kelsey Lu, Grimes, Charli XCX, and Jamila Woods. I produced the brand’s campaigns, e-com shoots and videos, art installation, short film, digital festival, interviews for the Magazine. Exploring the shifting nature of femininity with Perfect Number, allowed me to share important stories of women who unapologetically follow their paths.

NOW

I am currently growing Mirror Production and moving into producing documentary films. If you are looking for a producer to help you find stories, research, write, budget, coordinate, produce, investigate, deal with scheduling, paperwork re: permits and releases, post-production, and PR, please contact me. I am happy to get in touch and learn about your project!
